Keep ACC Foe Maryland Without a Conference Win

COLLEGE PARK, Maryland. – Boston College women’s soccer back Hannah Cerrone scored on goal and set up another to lead the No. 10 Eagles past ACC foe Maryland, 2-0, Thursday night.

The Eagles are now 11-3-3 and improved to 4-3-2 in the ACC, while Maryland dropped to 5-9-3 and 0-8-1 in the conference.

Cerrone scored in the 26th minute of the match to put theEagles up 1-0 on a free kick she placed in the upper corner of the goal. It was Cerrone second goal of the season.

The Eagles went up 2-0 in the 80th minute of the match when Cerrone’s corner kick was headed into the upper left corner by sophomore Kelly Henderson. Cerrone now has two goals and three assists for seven points, while Henderson has three goals and two assists for eight points.

Boston College controlled the game, outshooting Maryland, 21-8, with six corner kicks to the Terrapins five. Cerrone led the offensive attack with six shots, while Henderson had four. The Terrapins managed eight shots, three on goal.

Mae Shamir, who earned her first start in a BC uniform, picked up her first career ACC victory in goal, making three saves. She is now 2-0 on the season and has made four saves in three games. This was also her first career shutout.

The Eagles will play their final match of the 2007 season on Sunday, Nov. 4 versus Virginia Tech (1 p.m.) in Blacksburg.
