Pember has been a vital component of the Long Island defense since the team's 2006 WPSL Championship season, where she was named to the All-Final Four Team, helping shut down some of the best talent in the league such as San Diego's Jen Lalor-Neilsen and River Cities' Jennie Nobis (now with the WPS Boston Breakers).
At BC last fall, Pember anchored an Eagles’ defense that notched 13 shutouts in 2008. She played in 21 games and even chipped in with a goal. For her efforts, she was named to Soccer Buzz' All-American Freshmen First Team, Northeast Region Second Team and Northeast Region All-Freshmen Team while also being selected to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Freshmen Team.
"Alyssa is a first-class defender and an unbelievable competitor," said Long Island Fury coach Paul Riley. "She is the best defender in her age group in the country in my opinion. She is strong, quick, ruthless in the tackle. She also understands the game very well and is tactically well beyond her years. She is tremendous in the air, cool, calm and collected on the floor. I firmly believe that someday Alyssa will represent the USA in the World Cup."
In addition to the resigning of Pember, the Fury also announced Wednesday the return of Maryland forward Jasmyne Spencer and the acquisition of U.S. U-18 National Team member Crystal Dunn and Hofstra University midfielder Nicole Choffel.
