BC Coach Earns Local Hall Nod
Kelly to be Inducted in New England Soccer Hall of Fame

Boston College head men�s soccer coach Ed Kelly will be inducted into the New England Soccer Hall of Fame this November.
Kelly, now in his 22nd year as coach of the Eagles and his 25th season as a head coach, is one of seven inductees that comprise the 2009 induction class. Also named were US Soccer Federation secretary general Hank Steinbrecher; former New York Cosmos draft choice Carlos Carlos; Brown assistant women�s coach Denis M. Chartier; Franklin Youth Soccer�s Richard Frongillo; former US national team and Revolution defender Janusz Michallik; and Michael Stricklin of Rhode Island.
Kelly has compiled a career record of 238-175-44, including a 198-162-38 mark during his tenure at the Heights; he ranks first on BC�s all-time wins list. Since officially becoming the 12th member of the Atlantic Coast Conference in July 2005, Kelly has guided the Eagles to a 16-15-4 ACC regular-season record, including a 16-9-2 mark in the last four seasons. He coached the team to the 2007 ACC regular-season and tournament championships.
On the national level, Kelly has led Boston College to seven NCAA Tournament appearances (1990, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2007 and 2008) and a berth in the �Elite Eight� in 2002. In 2007, the team earned the nation�s No. 1 overall seed heading into the Division I tournament.
Individually, he has coached 10 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-America honorees, including two-time All-America selections Paul Keegan (1993, 1995), Guy Melamed (2002, 2004) and Alejandro Bedoya (2007, 2008). In the last three seasons, he has guided four BC players � Reuben Ayarna, Bedoya, Charlie Davies and Sherron Manswell � to NSCAA All-America recognition.
On the conference level, Kelly has led his teams to six tournament championships � five in Big East Tournament play, including three over a five-year period (1986-1990), and one in ACC Tournament action (2007).
