The Aztecs did all their scoring in the first half, taking 11 shots and earning three goals in five minutes. The first goal came in the 27th minute, when Carol Tognetti broke through the Magic defense to feed a ball to Aztec player-coach Rebekah Splaine, who took a hard, low shot that Magic keeper Lia Fierro couldn’t reach.
Three minutes later Sophia Mundy had a clear shot on net, which was saved by Fierro, but Splaine was there for the rebound, picking up her second goal. In the 32nd minute of the game, Splaine was fouled in the box.
Carol Tognetti took the penalty kick, but Fierro was able to save the shot pushing the rebound wide. Breakers developmental player Maggie Tomecka picked up the rebound cleanly placed it in the back of the net, giving Boston a 3-0 lead before the end of the half.
The Aztecs came out strong for the second half with Boston Breakers developmental keeper and Peabody, Mass. native Ashley Phillips in net and Tomecka heading the defense. Phillips has been a solid force for the Aztecs, adding another shutout to her record and only allowing one goal in four games.
The Aztecs will take on the Maine Tide at home on Saturday.
