Aztecs Shutout Stoners

Boston Takes 2-0 Victory
June 8, 2008

The Boston Aztec NPSL men took a 2-0 decision over the Pennsylvania Stoners Saturday.

Boston (2-1-0) got a huge victory over previously undefeated Pennsylvania (3-1-0) in the sweltering June heat. Peter Antonaides got the home team on the board on a diving header in the 43rd minute after a brilliant 35-yard outswinging freekick off the foot of Nick Figuerido (Bowdoin/Wilmington, MA). Stoner goalkeeper Sam Bishop came out to try and catch the freekick but couldn't connect, leaving the goal open for Antonaides' header and a 1-0 Aztec lead at halftime.

In the second half, the Aztecs keeper Peter LeVasseur (Salem St./Salem, MA) protected the lead with several big stops before Yuta Kizaki sealed the match in the 80th minute from the top of the 18-yard box after he was sent in alone on a through ball by Ali Kaba. The 2-0 score would hold for the remainder of the game.

The Aztecs take on the Morris County Colonials (0-2-0) at 3:00 p.m. Sunday.
