A two-time semifinalist for the Missouri Athletic Club’s Hermann Trophy, Akpan is Harvard’s all-time leading scorer with 97 points on 35 goals and 27 assists. During the 2008 season, Akpan amassed an Ivy League-best 26 points on 10 scores and six helpers.

For his effort last fall, Akpan was honored on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-America first team for the second time. He is a three-time NSCAA All-Northeast Region first-team honoree and has garnered three unanimous All-Ivy League first-team nods over his career.

Akpan, who has been playing with the Chicago Fire Players Development team this summer, will serve as co-captain of the Crimson along with senior midfielder Brian Grimm during the 2009 season.

Last season was also a banner one for Henderson, who was named Ivy League Player of the Year and third team NSCAA All-America. Henderson was also a first team All-Northeast and unanimous first team All-Ivy choice.

The New Zealander started 16 games for the Big Green, ranking second on the team and sixth in the league with 17 points on six goals and five assists. The senior also earned NSCAA Scholar All-America and CoSIDA Academic All-District accolades.

College Soccer News named UConn senior midfielder Toni Stahl and UMass junior midfielder Ben Arikian to its second team All-America squad.
