BC Picked Third in Conference

August 14, 2008

The Boston College men’s soccer team was picked to finish third in the Atlantic Coast Conference in the ACC Preseason Coaches’ Poll released Wednesday.

Wake Forest, the 2007 national champion, was named the preseason favorite. It received seven (of nine) first-place votes following last year’s 22-2-2 season. Maryland was chosen to finish second with 62 points.

The Eagles received two first-place votes and 60 points to finish third. BC, the defending ACC regular-season and tournament title winners, returns nine starters from last year’s 15-5-1 team. It finished 7-1-0 in conference play. BC defeated Wake Forest twice last fall.

Completing the preseason poll in order of projected finish are North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Duke, Clemson and NC State.

The Eagles 2008 season begins on Friday, Aug. 29 against Boston University at the Newton Campus Soccer Complex at 5 p.m
